  • Marc Winsberg Granted Prestigious Fellowship – May 2007
    Marc D. Winsberg was granted fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Mr. Winsberg is one of only nine attorneys from Louisiana to be currently admitted in this exclusive national family law organization. 

    Additionally, in March 2008, the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization re-certified Mr. Winsberg as a Family Law Specialist through 2012.
     
  • Lectures and Teaching
    Mr. Winsberg will be Lecturing on two topics, “Failure to Understand Tax Consequences of Assets” and “Ethical Considerations”, at a June 2008 National Business Institute Seminar named Preventing Critical Financial Mistakes During Divorces. He will also be speaking in a December Family Law Seminar on the topic of “Preparing for Trial and Mediation.” 
     
  • Family Law News
    Mr. Winsberg currently is handling several large community property partition cases and recently has settled two community property cases that resulted in multi-million dollar payouts to his clients. 

    The Louisiana Supreme Court affirmed Mr. Winsberg’s efforts on behalf of his client to obtain discovery concerning the financial position of a major New Orleans law firm. Mr. Winsberg represents the former spouse of a partner in the firm. Both the partner and his firm vehemently opposed producing the requested documents. After the trial court ordered the production, the partner and the firm appealed to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court, both of which upheld the trial court’s ruling in favor of Mr. Winsberg’s client. 
     
  • Preliminary Injunction Dismissed
    Mr. Winsberg successfully defended a request for preliminary injunction in a property dispute. A neighbor of Mr. Winsberg’s clients sought an injunction to grant him use of Mr. Winsberg’s clients’ roof to affect repairs on his own home. After a hearing, the Orleans Parish Civil District Court denied the request and dismissed the claim. 
     
  • Million Dollar Jury Award - February 2008
    Kyle Schonekas and Patrick McGoey secured a $1.5 million jury award for one of SWEM’s clients on a Hurricane Katrina business interruption claim. Following a three day trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of SWEM’s client on all claims and awarded penalties and attorney’s fees pursuant to Louisiana’s Bad Faith Insurance Statutes.
     
  • SWEM Partners Selected Again As Super Lawyers – January 2008
    For the second year in a row, Kyle Schonekas and Marc Winsberg were recognized by Louisiana Super Lawyers in the specialties of business litigation and family law.
     
  • Construction Arbitration Award – January 2008
    Kyle Schonekas and Patrick McGoey secured a victory on behalf of a general contractor in a suit under the Louisiana Public Works Act. After a week-long arbitration, the arbitrator found in favor of SWEM’s client and awarded contract and delay damages, as well as costs and expert fees.
     
  • SWEM Welcomes New Associate - August 2007
    SWEM is pleased to announce that Sara Johnson has joined the firm as an associate. Ms. Johnson earned her law degree from Tulane University Law School in May of 2007. She received her undergraduate degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2004. Ms. Johnson practices in the areas of commercial litigation and criminal defense.

  • SWEM OBTAINS FAVORABLE AWARD IN CONSTRUCTION ARBITRATION - July 2006
    After a three day hearing, the American Arbitration Association awarded SWEM a victory in a construction arbitration proceeding. The arbitrator found in favor of SWEM’s client on a breach of contract claim and awarded a substantial amount in damages and fees. Kyle Schonekas and Patrick McGoey represented the firm.
     
  • PATRICK MCGOEY RECEIVES AV PEER REVIEW RATING - March 2006
    After a confidential peer review by members of the Louisiana Bar, Martindale-Hubbell awarded Patrick McGoey an AV Peer Review Rating. The rating takes into consideration Mr. McGoey’s professional skill, expertise, reliability and ethics. An AV Rating is the highest peer review rating an attorney can receive.

     
  • KYLE SCHONEKAS TO SPEAK AT SUMMER SCHOOL FOR LAWYERS IN SAN DESTIN, FLORIDA - December 2004
    Kyle Schonekas will speak at the Summer School for Lawyers in San Destin, Florida on June 5, 2005. Mr. Schonekas will address the handling of high profile cases. Mr. Schonekas has represented parties in numerous highly publicized cases, including the Canal Street Brothel, pop star, Michael Jackson, and Operation Wrinkle Robe.
     
  • SCHONEKAS, WINSBERG, EVANS & MCGOEY, L.L.C. SUCCESSFULLY PROSECUTES FRAUD AND UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES CLAIM - December 2004
    Marc Winsberg and Thomas McEachin recently obtained a judgment in a suit for negligence, fraud, and unfair trade practices, including separate awards for plaintiffs’ mental distress and for attorneys’ fees and expenses. The claims were based on a contractor’s fraudulent misrepresentations and defective workmanship.
     
  • MARC WINSBERG TO SPEAK AT CLE ON FAMILY LAW - December 2004
    For the second year in a row, Mr. Winsberg is a speaker at the Tulane CLE By The Hour. On Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at 3:15 p.m., Mr. Winsberg will be speaking about recent developments in the area of family law. Last year, he made a presentation on issues of spousal support at the same program.
     
  • TOP NOTCH ASSOCIATE JOINS THE FIRM - October 2004
    Andrea V. Timpa graduated magna cum laude from the Loyola University School of Law where she was a Comment Editor for the Loyola Law Review. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Timpa worked as a paralegal specializing in bankruptcy.
